C.S. Lewis: "The Weight of Glory"
"I am trying to rip open THE INCONSOLABLE SECRET in each one of you -- the secret which hurts so much that you take your revenge on it by calling it names like Nostalgia and Romanticism and Adolescence."

  • -- Unknown: "God does not require you to have a great faith. You simply need to have faith in a great God."

The Fragile Industries Manifesto

  • Hammers
Why the hammer logo? "Hammers" was my maternal grandmother's maiden name, and I like the matrilineal symbolism. My great-grandfather was a blacksmith, so there's that family history as well. I consider myself ready to undertake the Fragile Industry of rebuilding my life with that hammer. Rebuilding the Insconsolable Secret “that hurts so much that you take your revenge on it by calling it names like Nostalgia and Romanticism and Adolescence.” (C.S. Lewis.) In taking up this blog I raise the powerful tool of language, of exchanged ideas, of humor. I am readying other devices from my toolbox, rusty, disused. The hammer is an ironic symbol of freedom and new life, of encouragement to me. Take it up if you dare.

nOthanks

Sounds just like the new Obama administration.

Now THAT is an odd comment. But, as the title is "Fascism for DUMMIES," this post obviously attracted a dummy, who can't read. In the interest of public education, let me connect the dots for you, nOthanks. I would ask you to compare the Obama administration and the previous eight years of 1)mandatory flag lapel pins 2)warrantless arrest, open-ended imprisonment, and torture 3)constant drumbeat of terrorist threats -- but never catching bin Laden 4)grossly bloated military budget 5)support of antiabortion activists and rabid homophobia 6)Fox News 7)continuous fearmongering, paranoia and creation of Homeland Security, baseless claims of WMD in Iraq 8)Wooing the religious far right and "born again" claims of the chief executive 9)Corporate tax cuts, complete lack of regulation of Wall Street resulting in current fiscal crisis, Big Oil's power concentrated in the White House 10) Republican opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act 11)An illiterate president and constant cuts in funding for the arts 12) Guantanamo Bay 13)Blackwater, Halliburton, Big Oil, huge corporate bonuses to executives, all profiting Bush and Friends 14)Dade County, 2000 election.

Just a sampling. How can Obama compete with that list? And yes, nOthanks, there WILL be a quiz.
